Peter Andrews is an energetic Sommelier, Wine Educator and Music Writer based in San Francisco, California. He’s an east coast native who moved west to fulfill his lifelong dream of living in The Golden State. After earning his degree in culinary arts and an MBA from Johnson & Wales University, he began his career as a chef, managing kitchens throughout the U.S. and abroad. His experience cooking in Charlotte, Charleston, Providence, Key Largo, Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Piemonte, Italy has influenced his cuisine tremendously. But it was the time spent in Italy that changed his path as he discovered his deepest passion is working with wine.
Now out of the kitchen professionally, Peter is fully immersed in the world of wine. Before moving to San Francisco in 2013, he was an Adjunct Professor of wine and alcohol business courses at his Alma Mater. Along with teaching, he opened and ran a boutique wine shop, Grapes & Grains, just outside of Providence that won, Best Wine Store, Rhode Island, each of its first three years in operation.
In addition to his current role as Wine & Spirits Buyer at Prima-one of the Bay Area’s most iconic Italian restaurants and wine shops- Peter has completed the WSET Diploma (the last prerequisite to the Master of Wine certification). He has a hard time sitting still and keeps busy teaching private wine classes in his spare time. He is passionate about learning and sharing his knowledge and feels there’s nothing more rewarding than teaching a student and witnessing that ‘aha’ moment. When he’s not immersed in the world of wine, you’ll catch him practicing yoga, surfing, cooking, or seeing live music.
