Shadow Mountain Vineyards & Winery is a small-production winery of fewer than 2,000 cases annually. Located in the mountains of northern San Diego County, in historic Warner Springs, our vineyards lie at and above 3,000 feet in elevation, in a high-desert climate that gets a touch of coastal influence. With vineyards planted originally in 1945, and expanded from the 1960s to as recently as 2014, we have approximately 16 varietals growing, from which we make over 20 single-varietal or blended wines. White wines are almost exclusively fermented and aged in stainless steel, while our reds are most likely to be found in an American - Appalachian Oak - barrel. We strive to let the terroir come through in the wines - only intervening with commercially-grown yeasts, filtration, fining, and testing to bottle clear wines where the flavors are apparent. Our owners, Julie & Stewart Davis, and our part-time vineyard, winemaking and tasting room staff and volutneer - Hilarion Velazquez, Jackie Slot, and Michelle Porrazzo - are working to continue the work started over 7 decades ago, growing excellent grapes, in a beautiful place, and transforming some amazing fruit and juice in to award-winning wine. In 2023, when the current ownership took over operations, we launched a new website in partnership with VinSuite, with online ordering and DTC shipping to over 20 states, began working with Vivino to feature our wines on their ratings platform, and refreshed our social media presence to make our winery a rural destination for our visitors. The Middle of Nowhere Wine Club is growing, and the love for our wines ranges from coast-to-coast in the U.S.
