21/08/2019 At the 2019 Sommeliers Choice Awards, wine by Bortolomiol was awarded a silver medal.

Grande Cuvee Del Fondatore Motus Vitae, a 2017 prosecco by Bortolomiol won a silver medal at the 2019 Sommeliers Choice Awards.

This pale yellow sparkling wine has a fine, fragrant and flowery bouquet. The well-balanced and fruity taste of this wine makes it a classic accompaniment to sea food. The good structure of this wine means it is perfect with white fish such as turbot, and white meats such as delicately prepared suckling pig.

In 1949 Giuliano Bortolomiol founded his winery and together with winemaking colleagues and friends often said “We need to do something for our hills”. Today, with the inscription into the UNESCO list the team has done much more: the hills have finally become a World Heritage Site!

He has always believed in the quality and future of designation of origin Prosecco to which he has dedicated his whole life. He was among the founders, in 1946, of the Confraternita del Prosecco (Prosecco Wine Fraternity) and, later on, of the Mostra dello Spumant. Giuliano Bortolomiol was also a master of the Martinotti-Charmat method and, as a great, intuitive experimenter; he was the first to create Prosecco Brut. Giuliano’s dream came true in 2009 after obtaining the DOCG designation, which means greater reliability for the consumer and more protection for producers.

The company is currently run by Giuliano’s four daughters Maria Elena, Elvira, Luisa and Giuliana. This generational change has brought with it a new managerial vision, but without altering the principles of family tradition: first and foremost product quality and promotion of the area. The commitment of the Bortolomiol women is not only to proudly achieve a female work outlook, but above all bring fresh femininity into the world of wine. For the Bortolomiol women, this means, above all, greater territorial awareness. From projects centred on a more aware, sustainable type of agriculture to greater focus on the entire production chain, femininity has become part of the company’s daily life and has been extended to other areas.

The company’s future is expansion. Not meaning just targeting interesting markets to be launched on, aware and proud of the distinctive designation. But also an authentic company commitment towards projects of an environmental and humanitarian nature.

Sommeliers Choice Awards, organized by Beverage Trade Network aims to provide on-premise buyers and sommeliers a valuable benchmark for understanding which wines would make a compelling addition to a wine list. The judging panel consisted entirely of top sommeliers, on-premise wine buyers, and wine directors at U.S. restaurants, bars, pubs, and clubs. The wines were judged by Food Parability, Typicity, Value, Quality, and Package.
