20/11/2018 Planning for a short trip to Singapore? Here are some authentic and famous cuisines that you should definitely try

Recently I was extremely lucky to spend a short 72 hour layover in the magical city of Singapore. Singapore’s cuisine filled my heart. Speaking Mandarin Chinese, I asked for some local’s recommendations, which led me to one of Singapore’s most OG, pioneers of Char Kway Teow - stir-fried ricecake strips - a national favorite! Spoiled for choice, our foodie adventure quickly ramped up, discovering the South-east Asian breakfast favorite Popiah “Bao Bing” - duck, peanuts, hoisin, lettuce & fried shallots wrapped in an egg crepe followed by authentic Chinese-inspired Hainanese Chicken Rice or fragrant chili, ginger and sesame poached chicken. Serious food coma could not be avoided as we were recommended Singapore’s famous Chili Crab bringing tears to my eyes (yum!) Singapore is home to the “cheapest Michelin star restaurant” where we waited 45 minutes to savor Liao Fan’s Hong Kong Soya Chicken & Char Siu.

Singapore cuisine truly blew me away! It’s long been on my must-visit list and I cannot wait to return. The eclectic flavoured cuisine is undeniably suited to enjoying with crisp, cold beer rather than wine (simply because wine is mindboggling-ly expensive). Find Tiger beer at your local specialty liquor outlet for a taste of Singapore’s iconic brew.
