Alexander Powell is one of only six Master Sommeliers in Canada and a distinguished leader in the hospitality and beverage industries. Based in Toronto, he serves as Operations Director for Main Hospitality Group in Unionville, Ontario, where he leads operational strategy and performance
across the organization.

With more than 16 years of industry experience, Alexander has held senior leadership roles at several of North America’s most prestigious dining establishments, including Executive Wine Director at Harbour Sixty, Beverage Director and Assistant General Manager at Aburi Hana, Wine Director at Don Alfonso 1890, and Senior Wine Manager at Grill 23 & Bar in Boston. His expertise encompasses beverage program development, organizational leadership, and the delivery of
refined, high-level guest experiences.

In addition to his operational leadership, Alexander contributes extensively to industry education and standards. He is an examiner for the Court of Master Sommeliers, a judge for the Ontario Wine Awards and the Sommeliers’ Choice Awards, and an educator with George Brown College and the LCBO.

Outside of his professional commitments, he enjoys playing darts, following basketball, reading in the field of neurology, and spending time with his fiancée and their four cats.
