Childhood friends Hugo Del Pozzo and Vicente Pliego discovered their passion for fine wine when they shared an apartment after college. In 2014, they founded the Pinea winery with a simple but ambitious purpose: to produce World-class wines. To accomplish that goal, the best fruit was necessary, so they assembled 85+ acres of mature vineyards (some over 90 years of age) in the Grand Cru part of the Ribera del Duero region, where high elevation and a mosaic of soils, give the estate fruit tremendous character.
The Pinea team applies passionate viticulture following organic, bio-dynamic, and sustainable practices and attention to detail in vinification, to let the fruit be the star. Pinea’s roots lie in passion, knowledge, and art. We make signature wines, produced with vision, soul, and deep respect for their origin. To do this, we listen to every bit of our terroir, trying not to overshadow what nature gives us with over ripening or excessive wood.
Understanding the divine element behind the creation of a wine gives us the humility to create something unforgettable. Pinea’s team is led by winemakers, Andres Vignoni (former winemaker at Paul Hobbs’ Viña Cobos) and David Ayala (former winemaker at Pago de Carraovejas). Our philosophy is that the land is the basis for our terroir and that, with the correct influence of people, we can find the expression that identifies us.
