Riesling lovers assemble! Poet's Leap Riesling by Long Shadows Vintners has been crowned with three medals namely Double Gold, Wine Of The Year BTG, and White Wine of The Year BTG at the 2021 Sommeliers Choice Awards. 

The 2019 Poet’s Leap Riesling is a blend of two distinct vineyards. German clones from The Benches in the Horse Heaven Hills provide mouthwatering minerality. Sagemoor Farms in the Columbia Valley, just outside of the Tri-Cities, contributes delicious citrus aromas and flavors and gives the wine appealing acidity.

What the sommeliers said: Nuances of peach and nectarine hints of white flowers and ginger. Fresh and textural driven by ripe apricot, and ripe golden apple.

Carracedo

Know for its unparalleled expression of the authentic Mencía Berciana and also for its own name, which honors the Monastery of Carracedo, located near the winery. This wine is the result of the coupage of three unique plots with very unique soils. 85-year-old glass vineyards, located in Valtuille de Arriba at 650 m. altitude.

Merlot Estate

The 2017 Merlot Estate won Gold Medal and Wine Of The Year By Varietal at the Sommeliers Choice Awards 2021. 

L’Ecole N° 41 is a third-generation family-owned, artisan winery located in the historic Frenchtown School depicted on our label. Today they are at the forefront of sustainable farming in the Walla Walla Valley, notably with their Estate Ferguson and Estate Seven Hills Vineyards, both of which are certified sustainable and certified Salmon Safe.

What the sommeliers said: Dense and polished black plums, cherry and mocha glide on a velvety textured frame. The palate has complex flavors of berries, chocolate and leather nuances.

UNO MALBEC

Argentina’s Best Wine, UNO Malbec produced by Antigal Winery & Estates took home Gold Medal, Wine Of The Year By Varietal, and Wine Of The Year By Country awards at the 2021 Sommeliers Choice Awards. 

Antigal is one of the oldest wineries in the region, dating 1897 and one of the few still in production. After its refurbishment in 2000, Antigal became a place where modern production technologies come together in perfect harmony with the historic architecture.

What the sommeliers said: Rich chocolate, fig, plum, blackberry, and spice. Palate reinforces nose. Wine is complex and delicious with flavors of blackberry pie, plum and redcurrant.

Albinea Canali Lambrusco "FB" Metodo Ancestrale

A wine produced by the “ancestral method”, ideal for accompanying cold cuts, pasta and rice dishes, barbecued meats and pizza, the Lambrusco "FB" Metodo Ancestrale produced by Albinea Canali gathered three awards. Gold Medal Sparkling Wine Of The Year, and Sparkling Wine Of The Year By The Glass. 

What the sommeliers said: Juicy flavors of strawberry, raspberries, and rhubarb lead to notes of black licorice and anise with a refreshing finish. Delicious and would be a great way to begin any celebration.

Marcenasco

From Italy, scoring a perfect 95 and winning a Gold Medal is the Marcenasco by Società Agricola Ratti.

Barolo Marcenasco has ancient origins. There are historical documents from the "Rigestum Comunis Albae" that bear witness to the cultivation of the Nebbiolo wine in the "Marcenascum" area already back in the 12th Century.

Barolo Marcenasco is smooth, balanced, elegant and faithfully, best to drink between 6 to 12 years after the vintage.

What the sommeliers said: Aromas of spice, tobacco, and herbal notes with overtones of red flowers and anise. The fruit is driven by ripe raspberries, figs, and dried strawberries.

Ochetti

A second Gold Medal awarded to Società Agricola Ratti for their ‘2019 Ochetti’. 

Class and spontaneous vivacity are the distinguishing characteristics of this wine. The typical sandy soil gives lots of finesse and a very delicate aromas. Red meats, grilled or on the spit, game, grande cuisine white and red meats with white or brown sauces.

What the sommeliers said: The nose is classic rose petals, bright strawberries, and raspberries. This wine has notes of dried herbs and sour cherry. Would benefit from 5-10 years further bottle aging.

Produced by Azienda Agricola Le Ginestre s.s. di Audasso Gian Luca & C. is the LE GINESTRE BAROLO DOCG SOTTOCASTELLO DI NOVELLO 2016 won Gold Medal at the 2021 Sommeliers Choice Awards and scored an amazing 95 points.

The “Cantina Le Ginestre” is a family-run winery located in the Municipality of Grinzane Cavour, in the hills of the Langhe, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, in Piedmont, in the North-West of Italy.

The small village of Ginestre was already marked on the cadastral maps since 1700 and has always been inhabited by winemakers, who have handed down their passion for working in the vineyards with the skills that are still theirs today. 

What the sommeliers said: Beautiful red flowers and spice on the nose with the palate developing more spice, dried leather, and ripe red and black fruit. Bing cherries and plum followed by notes of green tobacco and leather.
