Wondering which wines should you be eyeing on for 2020? We’re recapping some of the best bottles of 2019 to give you a cheat sheet of sommelier’s choice wine list from wine regions that are currently at their best. That being said, the wines that follow in this list are our picks for those that offer the very best combination of incredible taste and value. These wine brands will not disappoint you in their packaging. Hailing from all over the world and covering a number of different varietals and styles, there’s something for everyone in here.
1. 2015 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon by Groth Vineyards & Winery
Big, lush wine with huge gobs of fruit in the aroma and flavor. The texture of the wine is soft and supple. The sweet vanilla character derived from 22 months in the barrel blends well with the black cherry and blackberry flavors and aromas of the wine.
2. 2018 Frost Bitten Ice Riesling by JZ Wine Company
The wine shows flavors of ripe pineapple, candied apricot and pear with sublime undertones of sugarcane and honeysuckle. It is medium to full bodied with a long, rich golden raisin, clementine and honey finish.
3. 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon by Brassfield Estate Winery
This wine has lovely aromas of blackberry, black currant, and spice. It’s full bodied and soft with flavors of cherry-infused magma, and raspberry-flavored salt water taffy. The finish is pure velvet.
1. Von Buhl Reserve Brut by Weingut Reichsrat von Buhl GmbH
Delicious flavours of succulent Williams Christ pear, mandarin and hazelnut.The palate has a creamy texture, a powerful, well-integrated acid and a long final.
2. 2017 Blue Slate Kabinett by Dr. Loosen
This bright and vibrant wine comes with the classic white peach fruit and floral, flinty minerality that is so typical of this terroir. This wine makes an elegant aperitif and is an excellent match for seafood and spicy Asian cuisine.
1. 2016 Gusto by Artiga Fustel, SL
This wine is round, with well-integrated tannins and a good level of acidity to support them. It has earthy notes with a touch of baking spice on the nose.
2. Jaume Serra Cristalino Rosé by J. Garcia Carrion, S.A.
The Jaume Serra Rosé is clean and an attractive pink raspberry wine with carmine highlights. In the olfactory phase it has perceived the red fruits aromas (Raspberry, strawberry, redcurrant). On the mouth is structured, fleshly and lightly acid, with a good end aftertasting.
3. 2017 Isabella by Terroir Wine Group
Intense cherry red wine with a violet tinge. On the nose it has dark red fruits, hints of strawberry and raspberry, balanced with smooth toasted notes and spicy, liquorice hues. The palate is tasty, fruity with well-rounded tannins and light touches of smoky, toasted vanill.
1. 2017 Sauvignon Blanc Hochberg by Weingut Pongratz
The wine is wonderfully bright yellow in color. Ripe fruit with a fine nose of sweet currants. Mineral, salty with a great depth and a long finish.
2. 2016 Ried Kranachberg by Weingut Sattlerhof
Deep and subtle on the palate with black currant and salty elements. Impressive mouth filling with a finish that lingers for minutes.
1. 2016 Tiki Estate Waipara Pinot Noir by Tiki Wine & Vineyards
The vibrant, varietal flavours in this wine are complemented by firm tannins and well balanced use of oak that does not dominate the wine. The palate is full but soft with great length of flavour and finishes dry with perfect weight and mouthfeel to create a wine of wide appeal.
2. 2018 Duck Hunter Wines Pinot Noir by Duck Hunter Wines
Aromatics of ripe cherry, dark roasted nuts and hints of oak/tobacco with smooth powdery tannins, strawberry/cranberry flavours mingle with fresh herb accents.
A lingering savoury finish.
1. 2015 Salentein Numinaa by MP Wines
Deep ruby color and a nose of scents of cassis, black cherries, spices and mint Taste. An intense and robust wine with elegant flavors of raspberries, blueberries, sweet spices and a long, lingering finish of vanilla.
2. 2016 Benmarco Malbec by Susana Balbo Wines
BenMarco Malbec is a testament to Uco Valley where it hails from, proffering aromas of fresh black fruit and floral notes of violets. The palate shows great balance, very fine tannins and a thread of acidity going through its core, lifting it up and going to its length.
1. 2018 Réserve des Bertrands Élégance by Château des Bertrands
Pale peach and melon color, with a nose of fragrant ripe fruits. Balanced round palate, with a dry but mellow development.
2. 2017 Jolie Folle Sauvignon Blanc by Jolie Folle
This Sancerre-styled Sauvignon Blanc has notes of ripe citrus and French pear that finish with a subtle minerality.
1. 2016 F Negroamaro Salento I.G.P. by Cantine San Marzano
Very deep purple red colour wine with rich and complex bouquet with hints of spices, soft fruits, and cherry jam. A full-bodied wine, smooth and balanced, rich in fine tannins, with a pleasantly long lasting finish.
2. 2017 Rosso di Montepulciano by Avignonesi
The wine is ruby red colour highlighted by purple streaks. The bouquet presents caresses of violet, raspberry and black currant, integrated with aromas of sweet spices, cinnamon and vanilla. On the palate it is pleasant and fresh, supported by a good acidity. It is accompanied by an enveloping tannic structure and notes of ripe red and black fruit.
